Memories take shape when something from the present raises a toast to something from the past. Like scenes from familiar films are the moments that flicker through our thoughts, some pleasant enough to embrace, others destructive enough to refuse. Still they masquerade, either as welcomed guests or as unwanted ghosts. But just as guests can be escorted to the door, so also can thoughts or memories we no longer wish to entertain.
